Janet was born about 1514 in Dun, Angusshire, Scotland. Janet's father was John Erskine and her mother was Katherine Monypenny. Her paternal grandparents were John Erskine and Elizabeth Graham. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Robert, Walter, Thomas, Elizabeth and Isobel. She was the youngest of the seven children.-
