John Martin Elkin 
John Martin was born on January 3rd, 1839 in Green Co.,Kentucky. John Martin's father was William Melton Elkin and his mother was Lucyann Perlina Davis. His paternal grandparents were Abel Elkin and Mary (Polly) Skaggs. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, William A., Abel, Nancy J., Mary, Chesley and Elizabeth. He had three half-sisters named Elizabeth, Evline and Bernettie Ermon. He died at the age of 74 on December 16th, 1913 in LaRue Co.,Kentucky. He was buried in Mount Sherman Cemetery,LaRue Co.,Kentucky.General Notes
enrolled in the Union Army on Sept. 11, 1861 at Camp Joe Holt. Was wounded in action at the battle of Chickamuga, 09/20/1863. Returned to Mr. Sherman and was a farmer.
