Thomas, known as The Observer, was born in 1170 in Berkeley Castle, Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.1 The Observer's father was Robert (The Devout) FitzHarding and his mother was Eve FitzEstmond. His paternal grandparents were Harding (Son of Alnod) Prince of Denmark and Livida de Berkeley; his maternal grandparents were Estmond of Mercia and Godgifu of Coventry. He had a brother and three sisters, named Maurice, Helen, Alice and Margaret. He was the youngest of the five children.-
