Alia was born in 1150 in Wheldrake, Yorkshire, England.1   Alia's father was Thomas Darel and her mother was <Unknown>.  Her paternal grandparents were Geoffrey Darrel and <Unknown>. She had four brothers named Geoffrey, Marmaduke, Ralph and Robert.  She was the youngest of the five children.
