Mattie T. was born about 1865 in , , Arkansas, USA.¹ Mattie T.'s father was Miles Annual Crabtree and her mother was Ibbey Jane Shipley. Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Franklin SHIPLEY and Sarah "Sally" BURKETT. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Nathan, William Riley, Elmyra Jane, Sarah A. and Mary T..
