Catherine was born about 1490 in Of Ridward, Hampstall, Staffordshire, Englan. Catherine's father was Richard Cotton and her mother was Jane Or Joan Brereton. Her paternal grandparents were John Cotton and Mary Poole. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Thomas, Matilda Or Maud, Eleonor and Isabella.
