James R. was born in 1855 in Okolona, Clark Co, AR. James R.'s father was Richard L. Boyer and his mother was Alzada Roberts. His maternal grandparents were Charles Roberts and Lucy Townsend. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John Charles, Valentine, Robert L., Henry, Lucy A., Druciler, Drucilla D. and Mary M.. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.General Notes
