John was born in 1625 in Lancaster, Gloucestershire, England.1 John's father was William Ashley and his mother was Sarah Seward. His paternal grandparents were Anthony Ashley and Jane Okeover; his maternal grandparents were Seward and <Unknown>. He was an only child.
