Aedwine was born in 1020 in Tegaingl, Flintshire, Wales.1   Aedwine's father was Earl of Mercia, Earl of East Anglia Aelfgar (The Saxon) of Mercia III and his mother was Aelfgifu Saxe-Wessex.  His paternal grandparents were Leofric (The Great) Mercia III and Godgifu of Coventry; his maternal grandparents were King Ethelred (The Unready) of England II and Eadgyth. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Morcar, Burgheard, Swan Neck and Lucy. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Aeldred, Ealdulf and Ealdgyth.  He died at the age of 53 in 1073 in Northrop.1
