James Simpson was born on June 26th, 1852 in Orange Co, NC.1   James Simpson's father was John Ruffin Rhew and his mother was Susan Roberts.  His maternal grandparents were Jesse Roberts and Nancy Wilson. He had four brothers and five sisters, named William N. 'Billy', Isaac N., Jessie Thomas, John Ruffin, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth J. 'Betty', Nancy C., Susan Frances  'Fannie' and Mary Selena.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 64 on February 6th, 1917 in Flat River Twp, Person Co, NC.  He was buried in Rhew Family Cemetery, Flat River Twp, Person Co, NC.1
