Ruby was born in 1905 in OK. Ruby's father was William Henry 'Willie' Cary and her mother was Johnie B. Unknown. Her paternal grandparents were William Alexander 'Pope' Cary and Eliza J. Webb. She had three brothers and three sisters, named J. Vaughan, Horace, Theodore Marcus, Clara Belle, Alice May and Geraldine V..
