1   Martha's father was John Wood and her mother was Mary Burgess.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Wood and Hannah Rider; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Burgess and Martha Wilbore Closson. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Comfort, Thomas, Abigail, Constant, Avis and Mary. She had a half-brother named Jonathan.1
