Ann S. was born in 1840.1   Ann S.'s father was John Vanlaw and her mother was Lydia Spencer Branson.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Vanlaw and Mary Craft. She had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Jeptha S., Elisha, John, Samuel C., Jesse, Thomas, Mary, Louisa M., Lydia Sharp, Lucinda and Eliza.1
