William was born in July 1718 and his baptism took place in July 1718 in Kirktoun, Lnrk, Sctl.1   William's father was Andrew Scott and his mother was Jean Simpson. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Nathaniel, Samuel, Thomas, Walter, Andrew, Jean and Rachell.1
