Thomas J. was born in 1825 in Georgia.1 Thomas J.'s father was Thomas Redman and his mother was Sarah. He had two sisters named Sarah and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the three children.1

Thomas J. Redman took his family on board a flatboat in Alabama and drifted the Tennesse River to the Mississippi, and from there down to 10 Mile Island where they took up residence.
