SECOND GENERATION
Obadiah Owen [2] (John [1]), was born December 12, 1667 at Windsor, CT and died there October 11, 1751. He married September 21, 1693 Christian Winchell, daughter of David and Mary (Griffin) Winchell. She was born March 9, 1673 and died January 10, 1762 (Inscriptions, East Granby).
In July 1695 his father gave to Obadiah certain lands (Windsor records), and in April 1697 he made over to Obadiah and Isaac certain other lands.
In 1709 Obadiah enlisted in Capt. Collin's company, Col. William Whiting's regiment, to go on an expedition against Canada. He received a bounty of 11 shillings.
In 1735, at the age of 68, he successfully petitioned the General Court to exempt him from paying poll tax because "distempers had fallen into his leg, the bones whereof are dislocated and he is thereby incapacitated to pursue his common business.
