Mary Gertrude was born on May 10th, 1881.1   Mary Gertrude's father was La Roy De Montieur Gale and her mother was Martha Johnson.  Her paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Crawford Gale and Clara Brown; her maternal grandparents were John Johnson and Fannie Cale. She had two sisters named Edith Clara and Ethel Fannie.  She was the oldest of the three children.1
