Adam was born on January 10th, 1862.1   Adam's father was George Dilling and his mother was Sarah Burkett.  His paternal grandparents were Conrad Dilling and Elizabeth Brumbaugh. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Isaac, Andrew J., Emanuel, William, Harvey, Susanna, Barbara and Nancy.  He was the second oldest of the nine children. He had six half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Jacob, John, Samuel, Daniel, George, David, Mary A., Catherine, Elizabeth and Sara Ann.1
