Harriet B. was born in 1868 in Nebraska City, Otoe, NE.¹ Harriet B.'s father was John Milton Burks and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Maddox. Her paternal grandparents were Isham Burks and Martha; her maternal grandparents were John William Maddox and Elizabeth Newman. She had a brother and five sisters, named Lewis, Katherine A., Lucy E., Daisey Dean, Grace and Florence. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.¹
