Martha was born about 1652 in Portsmouth, RI.1   Martha's father was Francis Brayton and her mother was Mary Unknown. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Francis, Stephen, Mary, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the six children.1
