John was born on August 1st, 1665.¹ John's father was Jacob Barney and his mother was Ann Witt. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Barney and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Jacob, Israel, Jonathon, Samuel, Joseph, Sarah, Abigail, Ruth, Dorcas, Hannah and Hannah.¹
