1   Newton's father was Jeremiah Alvord and his mother was Jane Hoskins.  His paternal grandparents were Benedictus Alvord and Jane Newton; his maternal grandfather was Anthony Hoskins. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Benedict, Jeremiah, Job, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Joanna and Jane.1
