Sara Whatlington "Sal" was born on December 18th, 1820 in Santa Cruz Island (St. Croix), West Indies.1 Sara Whatlington "Sal"'s father was Arthur Potter and her mother was Margaret White. Her maternal grandparents were White and Hartshorn. She had four brothers and six sisters, named Barnet Whatlington, Arthur, Charles Wilhelm, Frederick Carl Christian Monroe, Anne Eliza, Margaret, Mary Elizabeth "Tito", Louisa, Alice Jane Tatum and Mary Etholinda "Ethie". She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.1 -
