Llywarch ap was born in 1070 in Arwystli, Montgomeryshire, Wales.  Llywarch ap's father is Trahaiarn ap Caradawg and his mother is Gruffudd Nest verch Angharad.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 58 in 1128 in North Wales.

They had four sons and two daughters, named Robert ap, Iorwerth ap, Maredudd ap, Madog ap, Gwladys verch and Elen verch.
