John was born about 1340 in Stourton, Wiltshire, England.  John's father is William De Stourton and his mother is Joan Vernan.  His paternal grandparents are Ralph De Stourton and Alice De Berkeley.  He is an only child.

They had six sons and two daughters, named John, Robert, Roger, Richard, Edmund, Huskin, Elizabeth and Mary.
