His paternal grandfather is John De Sanford and his paternal grandmother was Cecily De Sewardstone; his maternal grandfather was Alan Basset and his maternal grandmother is Aline De Gay. He had six brothers and two sisters, named John, Alan, Gilbert, Nicholas, Roger, Fulk, Cecilia and Aline. He was the third youngest of the nine children. He died in 1270.General Notes
