Robert was born about 1103 in Annandale, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. Robert's father was Robert De Brus and his mother was Agnes Paynel. His paternal grandfather was Adam De Brus and his paternal grandmother is Emma Ramsay; his maternal grandparents are Fulk Paynel and Beatrice FitzWilliam. He had two brothers and a sister, named Adam, Pagon and Agatha. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died in 1194.General Notes
