Christian was born in 1433 in Sanquhar Castle, Drumfrieshire, Scotland. Christian's father was Robert Crichton and her mother was Elizabeth Erskine. Her paternal grandparents are Robert Crichton and Elizabeth Erskine; her maternal grandfather is William Erskine. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Lawrence, Thomas, Patrick, Edward, George, Alexander, Margaret and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the ten children.
