Edward was born about 1511 in Aldeburie, Hertfordshire, England. Edward's father was Henry Whitman and his mother is Alice Axtell. His paternal grandfather is Thomas Whitman; his maternal grandparents are Thomas Axtell and Joan Gould. He is an only child.
Edward and Bridget were married in a religious ceremony about 1529. They had a daughter named Elizabeth.
