Seneca was born on May 2nd, 1842 in Thornton, New Hampshire. Seneca's father was David Flint Sargent and his mother was Hannah T. Sellingham. His paternal grandparents were Philip Sargent and Lucinda Bancroft. He had three brothers named William Moses, Jacob M. and George K.. He is the second youngest of the four children.-
