Rubie was born on November 17th, 1853. Rubie's father was Anson Sargent and her mother was Rosina Courser. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Ezra Sargent and Rubie Ruiter. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, Horace, Simeon, Marietta, Alice R., Betsey M., Cinderella and Corinda. She is the fourth youngest of the nine children.
