Philip was born on August 15th, 1822 in Allentown, New Hampshire. Philip's father was Sterling Sargent and his mother was Sally Gault. His paternal grandparents were Philip Sargent and Sally Perin. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Hiram, Mathew, William G., William G., Warren, Sarah, Elsie K., Mary H. and Abbie H.. He is the third oldest of the ten children.-
