Herbert Chase was born on March 14th, 1861 in Lincoln, Addison County, Vermont. Herbert Chase's father was Daniel Huntington Sargent and his mother was Harriet N. Brooks. His paternal grandparents were Moses Sargent and Sally Durfee. He had two brothers and a sister, named George Arthur, Wallace Charles and Mary J.. He was the oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Sewell John, Alson Moses, William and Lois. He died about 1910.-
