Eli E. was born on February 13th, 1836 in Goffstown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. Eli E.'s father was Symmes Sawyer Colby and his mother was Louisa Ordway. His paternal grandfather was Samuel Colby and his paternal grandmother is Sarah Partridge. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Lorenzo, John, Syms, Susan, Eliza Jane, Mary, Clementine Augusta and Latitia. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-sister named Nellie A.. He died at the age of 49 in 1885 in New Boston, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.-
