His paternal grandfather was Pierre I Sire De Grandison and his paternal grandmother is Agnes De Neuchatel; his maternal grandparents were John De Tregoz and Mabel Fitzwarin. He had a brother and three sisters, named John, Agnes, Mabilia De and Katherine De. He was the oldest of the five children. He had a half-sister named Katherine.
