Jane was born in 1843 in Goval, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Jane's father was James Crombie and her mother was Katherine Scott Forbes. Her paternal grandparents were John Crombie and Catherine Harvey; her maternal grandfather was Theodore Forbes and her maternal grandmother is Eliza Kevork. She was an only child. She died at the age of 74 in 1917 in Rubislaw Terrace, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.-
