John was born on April 10th, 1801 in Hopkinton, Washington, Rhode Island, USA.1 John's father is Paul Crandall and his mother was Prudence Chapman. His paternal grandparents were James Crandall and Sarah Clark. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Paul, Samuel Plum, Thomas Baxter, Acors Rathbone, Gardner, William Clark, Eunice Cottrell and Abigail. He is the second youngest of the nine children.-
