John II de Baliol 
John II was born in Barnard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England. John II's father was John I De Baliol and his mother was Devorgilla Galloway. His paternal grandparents were Hugh of Barnard Castle and Cecily de la Fontaine; his maternal grandparents were Alan of Galloway and Princess of Scotland. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Hugh, Alexander, Alan, William, Cecily, Eleanor (Alianora), Mary, Euphemia, Margaret and Ada. He died in France. He was buried in Church of St, Waast, Normandy.General Notes
John won a contest in the English courts with Robert le Brus and was declared King of Scotland. He payed homage to King Edward in December 1292 and, in fact, much of Scotland was ruled by Edward. Edward confiscated castles from John based on complaints of Scots and in 1295, Edward insisted that the Scots help finance his campaign against Philippe IV of France. John joined with Philippe, but Edward defeated him at the battel of Selkirk in March 1296. After the loss at the battle of Dunbar on Apr 27, John was imprisoned in the Tower of London, and Edward marched north and seized the Stone of Scone. John was released in 1299 and spent his final years on his estate in France. (The Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queens, p 49-412)
