David was born in Methil, Fife, Scotland. David's father was Duncan MacDuff and his mother was Ada or Ela. His paternal grandfather was Duncan MacDuff. He was an only child.General Notes
He got from his father the lands of Strathbogie, forming one of the fve districts of Aberdeenshire. He was the father of John de Strathbogie, who became Earl of Atholl by his marriage. (The Scots Peerage IV:8)
