William was born about 1393 in Ratherne, Dunblane, Stirlingshire, Scotland. William's father was Lucas Stirling. His paternal grandfather was William De Strivelyn. He had a brother named Lucas. He was the older of the two children. He died before 1471 in Keir, Perthshire, Scotland.General Notes
