His paternal grandparents were Roger de Pyvelsdon and Margaret verch Gruffydd Llwyd; his maternal grandparents were Madoc Voel ap Ieuan and Angharad verch Dafydd Hen. He was an only child. Imprisoned in the Tower and forfeited Emral for supporting the rebellion of his brother in law, Owain Glyndwr.
