Hedwig of was born in Meissen, Dresden, Saxony. Hedwig of's father was Dietrich "Der Bedrhangte" and her mother was Jutte of Thuringia. She was an only child.
‌Hedwig of and Dietrich V were married in a religious ceremony about 1227 in Cleve, North Rhine-Westphalia, Prussia. They had a son and a daughter, named Derek VI and Margaretha.
