Hugues' father was Guy De Vergy and his mother was Alix De Beaumont-sur-Vingeanne. His paternal grandparents were Simon II De Vergy and Elisabeth; his maternal grandparents were Hugues de Beaumont-sur-Vingeanne and Mathilde de la Ferte-Sur-Aube. He was an only child.
They had a daughter named Adelaide De Chalon.
