Martha was born about 1850. Martha's father was David Carpenter and her mother was Sarah M. LNU. Her paternal grandparents were William Carpenter and Martha Margaret McConnell. She had a brother and four sisters, named David H., Esther, Margaret, Mary A. and Sarah A.. She was the youngest of the six children.-
