Muriel was born in 1030 in Normandy, France. Muriel's father was Count Herlouin de Conteville of Mortaigne and her mother was Herleva de Falaise. Her paternal grandfather was Earl Jean de Conteville of Comyn and her paternal grandmother is Jean de Mellent; her maternal grandparents were Chamberlain Rollo Fulbert de Falaise and Duxia de Falaise. She had two brothers and a sister, named Odo, Robert and Emma. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ralph, "the Conqueror", Adâelaèide, Godiva and Felicia. She died at the age of 46 in 1076.-
