William, known as Brito, was born about 1085 in St Aubin d'Aubigne, Ille-et-Vilaine, St Malo, Bretagne, France.  Brito's father was Lord Robert de Toeni of Belvoir and his mother is Adelica de Plessis.  His paternal grandfather was Lord Ralph de Toeni II of Guerny and his paternal grandmother is Countess de Bayeux; his maternal grandfather was Grimolt de Plessis and his maternal grandmother is Matilda de Normandy. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Brito, Roger, Agnes, Olivia and Aimee.  He died before 1156 in Belvoir Castle, Belvoir, Leicestershire, England.  He was buried in Belvoir, Leicestershire, England.
