Sarah Barnett, the daughter of John Barnett and Marran Gibbs, wa s bo rn in Virginia. She was later married in Orange County, Vir ginia to a m an named John Watts. John, who is said to have bee n born in about 17 22 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, was the s on of Thomas and Esther Wat ts. After their marriage, Sarah an d John resided on the plantation he inh erited from his father i n what was then Culpeper County, Virginia. After the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, the majority of S arah a nd John's children moved to the newly formed State of Kent ucky. During t he Fall of 1793, their son-in-law, Jesse Vawter , returned to Virgin ia to help John and Sarah move to Kentucky . They subsequently arriv ed in Madison County, Kentucky on 18 No vember 1793, and it is there th at they resided for the remainde r of their lives. John died in Madison County in 1796. His will, which was writte n on 4 Feb ruary 1796, was admitted for probate in the Madison Co unty Court on 5 Ju ly 1796. Although Sarah also died in Madiso n County, the date of her dea th has not been determined. Even t hough Sarah and John are said to have h ad fourteen children, onl y eleven children have been identified with a ny certainty.
