Benjamin Sawyer 
Benjamin was born in 1748 in Derry, Lancaster, PA, USA.1 Benjamin's father was William Sawyer and his mother was Sophia Clemson. His paternal grandparents are Charles Sawyer and UNKNOWN Mary; his maternal grandparents were James Clemson and UNKNOWN Sarah. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, William, James I, Hannah and Sophia. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 44 on February 5th, 1792 in Derry, Dauphin, PA, USA.1 General Notes

own as Derry Township in 1780. He m. Margaret HAYNES in 1770 (Doc. #672
). He is mentioned in "Historical Review of Dauphin Co." pg. 138-139 (Do
c. #672). He was b. 1735 (Doc. #25 & #672) Nat'l DAR file #196513. He serv
ed as a priv ate in Capt. McCallen's Co. of 1st Bat. Lancaster Co. Milit
ia (Penna. Archives, Vol. 7 pg 72, 5th Series (Doc. #672).
Misc: Doc. #504 is a copy of a receipt written in his own handwriting a
nd given to his bro. John SAWYER in settlement of the estate of their br
o. William's estate in 1789. The original of this doc ument as well as t
he land warrant is in the possession of John P. GEDDES of Ann Arbor, MI.
Marriage: C.R. Clemson of Lancaster, PA says he m. Margaret _____ ___ at D
erry Church. Ceremony performed by Rev. Sloan.
Inheritance: Per his mother's Will dated 22 Mar 1788, he rec'd 32 lb
s. of gold or silver plus the re sidue and remainder of her estate. He w
as also named as executor (cited on pg. 14 of "Sawyer Family History" by H
azel SAWYER.
Death: WTS Gen. pg. 7 says Re v. R.H. Taylor, pastor of Derry Church, Hers
hey, PA copied the inscription from his tombstone which was shared with Th
omas Sawyer and which read: "...and Benj amin Sawyer, departed this life F
