John Parker 
John was born in 1680 in Rappahannock, VA, USA.1 John's father was Robert Parker and his mother was Elizabeth Parker. His paternal grandparents were Richard Parker and Elizabeth Bailey. He had three sisters named Anne, Elizabeth and Frances. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 80 in 1760 in Hampshire, VA, USA.1 General Notes
John Parker was granted lot # 44, 350 acres, by Lord Fairfax between1747-1
749. This was between Old Fields and the Potomac. PeterPeters, whose daugh
ter Hannah married John Parker's son Robert, wasgranted lot # 32 of the sa

"Fort John Parker" from "Frontier Forts Along the Potomas and ItsTributari
es" by William H. Answel, Jr. Exerpts: "This defense waslocated on Lot #
44 of the Fairfax South Branch survey...two and onehalf miles southea
st of Springfield, West Virginia..
On November 9, 1756, the "fort at Parker's on the South Branch"was includ
ed with the list of defenses extending across the Virginiafrontier, a
nd it was stated to be ten miles from Ashby's fort onPatterson's Creek a
nd was garrisoned with thirty men.
On June 13, 1756, while at Fort Cumberland, Washington wrote toCaptain Rob
ert McKenzie ordering him to instruct Lieutenant Neugent ofthe King Geor
ge militia to immediately proceed with his command toJohn Parker's on t
he South Branch and while there, not only protectthe inhabitants about t
he fort but to also assist them in harvestingtheir crops...
Fort Parker was named for John Parker, the owner of the realestate upon wh
ich it was constructed, he having purchased Lot #44consisting of 350 acr
es from Thomas Lord Fairfax on July 24, 1749..
The foundation stones supporting the buildings can still be seenat the loc
ation. About 200 feel north of the fort is an ancientcemetery, the grav
es marked with native stone, but withoutinscriptions of any kind. The pers
ons buried there are unknown. Itmay have been a Parker family cemetery a
nd John Parker, the earlysettler might be interred therein. The since t
he gravestones areunmarked, it could well have been a burial gr
