Note:
He came to New England about 1637-38 with his wife and family
and settled (1st in Watertown, Mass. in 1635 removing in 1637)
in Wetherfield where "Richard Treat, Esq." held positions of
rank and importance. From 1644 to 1657-58 he was a deputy to the
General Court, acted as asst. from 11 Mar 1657 to 1665, and was
townsman in 1660. On 23 April 1662, he was named a patentee of
the Charter of the Colony of Connecticut by Charles II. In 1659
he was listed as freeman, and on 9 oct '59 Richard Treat Sr.,
Richarch Treat Jr., and James Treat appeared on a list of
Wethersfield freemen. Robert Treat, his other son, had removed
to Milford, Conn. 17 Dec 1663 and again 1 Jul 1664 he was a
member of Governor Winthrop's Council. His extensive property
included 900 acres at Glastonbury, Conn., know as "Treat Farm".

A 2'8" by 1'6" brass was erected in the Pitminster Church in
1902 by John Harvey Treat, author of the Treat Genealogy, in
memory of his ancestors Richard and Robert Treat.
Military: During Philip's war he rendered the colony most improtant
service; relieving Captain Monley, who had marched from
Deerfield to the relief of Captain Lothrop near Hadley, 18 Sep
1675, when "the flower of Essex" were cut down by the Indians at
Bloody Brook; and marching from Westfield to render aid to
Springfield when set on fire by a force of several hundred
Indians, in Oct 1675. For these services and his defence of the
towns on Long Island against the Dutch, he received the thanks
of the assembly at its session in Oct 1675 when he was appointed
commander-in-chief of all the forces to be raised in Conn. to
act against the Indians.
